Qualitative Research and Thinking: A Critical Analytical Thinking Practice

Year 2018, Volume: 1 Issue: 2, 23 - 35, 01.12.2018

Abstract

In this article, firstly, basic research paradigms and quantitative research will be briefly mentioned, then qualitative research, which have been widely utilized in academia and relevant sectors, will be detailed. In addition, the relationship between qualitative research and critical and analytical thinking, and finally reflexivity that is one of the distinguishing aspects of qualitative research will be explained. The information on what kind of reasons and methods will be used when undertaken qualitative research, and also information on reliability and validity will be provided. Researchers aim to balance their biases by focusing on their own thinking and by providing historical and contextual dimensions to their chosen topic. Therefore, reflexivity establishes one of most important indications towards the quality of qualitative research. Qualitative research facilitates further exploration of the data obtained. Therefore, for the decision holders and policy makers to be able to apply the results of research to their decisions and implementations, researchers must balance their subjective tendencies through all possible objective means, and they should be able to systematically reflect these processes on their reports. So, this would mean that researchers would need extended intellectual and research skills.

Nitel Araştırmalar ve Düşünümsellik: Bir Kritik Analitik Düşünme Pratiği

Year 2018, Volume: 1 Issue: 2, 23 - 35, 01.12.2018
