The Revelation of Ares: A Historical and Theological Analysis of the Sacred Text of a New Religious Movement

Abstract

The subject of our study is the historical and theological analysis of The Revelation of Ares, the unique sacred text of the new religious movement known as the Pilgrims of Ares, which emerged in France in the second half of the 20th century. The Revelation of Ares consists of two sacred texts: The Gospel Delivered in Ares and The Book. Explanations have been added to these sacred texts by the founder of the movement and Michel Potay. The Revelation of Ares was shaped in the context of the religious quests and charismatic revelation claims of the 20th century and has diverged from traditional Christian doctrines. In this respect, the text has brought a different perspective from the traditional Christian understanding, especially in terms of the nature of God, sin, salvation, and the perspective on other prophets and religions. The Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) and Muslims are respectfully mentioned in the text. The concepts in the sacred text are generally presented in the context of new religious movements in the study. Accordingly, the life of Michel Potay, the founder of the Pilgrims of Arès and the author of the sacred text, the historical process of the formation of the text and the basic theological concepts in the text are the general subjects of the research. The aim of the study is to reveal the basic teaching of The Revelation of Arès as they accept it.

THE REVELATION OF ARÈS (ARES VAHYI): YENİ BİR DİNİ HAREKETİN KUTSAL METNİNİN TARİHSEL VE TEOLOJİK ANALİZİ

Abstract

Çalışmamızın konusu, 20. Yüzyılın ikinci yarısında Fransa’da ortaya çıkan, Arès Hacıları olarak bilinen yeni dini hareketin kendilerine özgü kutsal metni The Revelation of Arès’in (Ares Vahyi) tarihsel ve teolojik analizidir. The Revelation of Arès, The Gospel Delivered in Arès (Ares’te Verilen İncil) ve The Book (Kitap) olmak üzere iki kutsal metinden oluşmaktadır. Bu kutsal metinler için hareketin kurcusu ve Michel Potay tarafından açıklamalar eklenmiştir. The Revelation of Arès, 20. yüzyılın dini arayışları ve karizmatik vahiy iddiaları bağlamında şekillenmiş olup geleneksel Hıristiyan doktrinlerinden ayrışmıştır. Metin, bu yönüyle özellikle Tanrı’nı doğası, günah, kurtuluş, diğer peygamber ve dinlere bakış açısı bakımından geleneksel Hıristiyan anlayışsından farklı bir bakış açısı getirmiştir. Metinde Hz. Muhammed (s.a.v.) ve Müslümanlar saygıyla anılmaktadır. Çalışmada kutsal metinde geçen kavramlar yeni dini hareketler bağlamında genel hatlarıyla ortaya konulmuştur. Buna göre Arès Hacıları’nın kurcusu ve kutsal metnin yazarı Michel Potay’ın hayatı, metnin oluşumunun tarihsel süreci ve metinde geçen temel teolojik kavramalar araştırmanın genel konularıdır. Çalışmanın hedefi, The Revelation of Arès’in temel öğretisini, kendilerinin kabul ettiği şekilde ortaya çıkarmaktır.
