HELLEN MİTOLOJİSİ’NDE BİLGELİĞİN DÖNÜŞÜM SÜRECİ: METİS’DEN ATHENA’YA

Öz

Hellen ve Roma mitolojilerinde bilgelik, yalnızca ilahi bir özellik değil, aynı zamanda tanrı (ça)ların ve ölümlülerin yaşamlarını şekillendiren güçlü bir yetidir. Athena, annesi Metis’in sezgi, strateji ve zanaatkârlıkla şekillenen bilgeliğiyle, babası Zeus’un ataerkil kontrol ve ilahi otoritesini birleştirerek karmaşık bir bilgelik örneği oluşturur. Athena’nın bilgeliği hem annesinin hem de babasının etkisiyle şekillenen çok yönlü bir kavramdır. Metis, bilgiye dayalı stratejik düşünme, sezgi ve zanaatkârlıkla Athena’nın karakterini şekillendirirken, Zeus’un etkisi, bilgelik üzerinde ataerkil otoriteyi ve kontrolü pekiştirir. Zeus, Metis’i yutarak bilgeliği kendi kontrolü altına alır ve bu, Athena’nın doğumunda bilgeliğin babadan geçmesinin simgesel bir gösterisine dönüşür. Bu çalışma, Athena'nın bilgeliğini şekillendiren annesi Metis ve babası Zeus’tan aldığı farklı öğretileri antik kaynaklar ışığında incelemektedir. Bu kapsamda, Metis ve Zeus'un miti ile Athena'nın doğumunun ayrıntılı bir analizi üzerinden, geleneksel olarak dişi zekâsıyla ilişkilendirilen bilgeliğin, ataerkil otorite tarafından nasıl şekillendirildiği ve aktarıldığı açıklanacaktır. Ayrıca, Athena'nın Hellen mitolojisindeki bilgeliği, Roma’daki karşılığı Minerva ile benzer bir evrim süreci geçirmiştir. Bu bağlamda, çalışmamız Athena ve Minerva arasındaki bilgeliğin kültürler arası dönüşümünü ve etkileşimini de araştırmayı amaçlamaktadır.

The Evolution of Wisdom in Hellenic Mythology: From Metis to Athena

attribute but also a powerful force that shapes the lives of both gods and mortals. Athena represents a complex form of wisdom, blending the intuitive, strategic, and craft-based wisdom of her mother Metis with the patriarchal control and divine authority of her father Zeus. Athena's wisdom is a multifaceted concept shaped by both maternal and paternal influences. While Metis shapes Athena’s character through wisdom based on strategic thinking, intuition, and craftsmanship, Zeus’s influence reinforces patriarchal authority and control over wisdom. Zeus swallows Metis, symbolically taking control over wisdom, and this act transforms Athena's birth into a representation of wisdom being passed down from the father. This study examines how Athena’s wisdom is shaped by the different teachings she inherits from her mother Metis and father Zeus, analyzing ancient sources. In this context, through a detailed analysis of the myth of Metis and Zeus and the birth of Athena, it will be explained how wisdom, traditionally associated with feminine intelligence, is shaped and transmitted by patriarchal authority. Additionally, Athena’s wisdom in Greek mythology underwent a similar evolutionary process in her Roman counterpart, Minerva. This work also aims to explore the intercultural transformation of wisdom and the ongoing connections between Athena and Minerva.
