While the Quran is recognized as the primary source of Islam, hadiths are regarded as the second. Narrations in hadith collections regarding qiraat may be about articulating a word or verse in the Qur'an, or it may be about how the Qur'an should be recited, learnt, and taught. Based on the standards established, the differences in reciting the Quran as recounted in hadiths could be authentic, good and weak. A difference in a hadith narration acknowledged to be authentic is likewise acceptable in the qiraat literature. A weak qiraat, however, may be acknowledged as authentic in qiraat. The current study focuses on why one aspect of qiraat authorized authentically according to qiraat is judged weak in hadith sources, besides why an aspect available in an authentic hadith is seen as shaz (weakly supported) or mardut (rejected). Therefore, the present study analyzes the various causes of the differences in question.
