THE USE OF GEOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION SYSTEMS IN THE QUERY AND THE PRODUCTION OF MULTIPLE PURPOSE FOREST MAPS
Abstract
As the forestry involves hydrological, technological and social aspects, many factors should be taken into consideration when studying in this area. Thus, it is very important to use Geographical Information Systems (GIS) to conduct contemporary forestry studies.
By using a Geographical Information Systems, the problem of scale concerning topography and forest structure is eliminated and maps produced at any scale. This gives much more flexibility over traditional methods. Efforts towards establishing a Turkish Forest Information System (ORBS) should continue and ORBS should be completed immediately to help those in the field of forestry and basic maps necessary for the coordination among users and for getting the works undertaken by General Directory of Forestry clone
efficiently, timely and economically.
