GENERAL ASSESSMENT OF WATERSHED PLANNING AND WATER RESOURCES OF TURKEY
Abstract
The water in the world moves in hydrologic cycle with help of sun’s energy. The living organisms who live in the earth supply water from hydologic cycle for their vital activities and after that used water is returned to hydrologic cycle. To keep on vital activities in ecological balance, it is necessary to supply
sufficent water from that cycle. When the life standarts are developed, the demanding of water become higher then the increasing rate of population. For this reason, water onsumption rate per capita is increasing in all over the world. In a general rule, if the water rate for per capita is less then 1000 m3 in a year, it is accepted as a water femine. The consumenable water rate for per capita of Turkey is 1621 m3 in a year. In order to be a water rich country, consumenable water rate for per capita must be around 10000 m3 in a year, and thus, Turkey is not
water rich country. For this reason, conservating, developing, and using of water resources have critical importance in Turkey. To look at future hopefully, conservating, developing, and sustainable using of waters resources of Turkish have to be planned in a creek level.
