THE EFFECT OF SOLVENT EXCHANGE ON THE PIT ASPIRATION IN ORIENTAL SPRUCE (Picea orientalis (L.) Link.) WOOD

Abstract



This study
investigated the effect of solvent Exchange drying utilizing low surface
tension force of organic solvents on pit aspiration in Oriental spruce wood.
All trees used for experiments were obtained from Maçka-Karahava region.
Investigations for pit aspiration was carried out on electron microscope. Prior
to the experiments, samples dried with solvent Exchange method. The principle
of this method was the replacement of free water in wood with an organic
solvent, low in surface tension. The applied organic solvents were acetone,
benzene and pentane. For comparison purposes, pit aspiration experiment also
were conducted on oven-dried and air-dried wood samples. Result inticated that
solvent Exchange drying was observed to be effective on pit aspiration, and the
best result was obtained by acetone treatment.




DOĞU LADİNİ (Picea orientalis (L.) Link.) ODUNUNDA BAZI ORGANİK ÇÖZÜCÜLERİN GEÇİT ASPRASYONU ÜZERİNDEKİ ETKİLERİNİN İNCELENMESİ

Abstract

Bu çalışmada Doğu Ladini odununda bazı organik çözücülerin geçit aspirasyonu üzerindeki etkileri incelenmiştir. Örnek ağaçlar, Maçka-Karahava Bölgesi saf Ladin mesçerelerinden seçilmiştir. Geçit aspirasyonu incelemeleri elektron mikroskopta gerçekleştirilmiştir. Bu incelemelerde, tam yas halden tam kuru ve hava kurusu hale getirilmiş ve ayrıca yüzey gerilimi düşük organik çözücüler (aseton, pentan, benzen) ile muamele edilerek serbest suyun organik çözücü ile yer değiştirmesi esasına dayanan özel bir kurutma işlemine tabi tutulmuş örnekler kullanılmıştır. Sonuç olarak, organik çözücü değişimi yapılarak uygulanan kurutma yönteminin geçit aspirasyonunu önlemede etkili olduğu ve organik çözücü olarak kullanılan aseton, pentan, benzen uygulamaları sonucunda ise yüzey gerilim kuvvetlerine bağlı olarak en iyi sonucun aseton ile muamele edilmiş örneklerden elde edildiği belirlenmiştir.
