Evaluation of seating areas in Ankara Kuğulu Park in terms of usage

Abstract

Open-green spaces, which have many benefits in terms of environmental, social, economic and human health, are public spaces that allow different people to spend time together. Urban parks are open green areas where people spend most of their time to meet their recreational needs in urban environments. Urban parks provide spaces where individuals can get away from city life, relax, socialize, and integrate with nature, create environments where urbanites can meet their psychological, social and physical needs. The sitting activity in the park areas and the places with different characteristics where they will perform this activity are the most used places. Within the scope of this study, the use of seating areas in Kuğulu Park, which has become the symbol of Ankara, which seating areas are preferred and for what reason, whether the personal characteristics of the users and the way they come individually or collectively are effective on the preferences. This study emphasizes that many factors should be taken into consideration in the design process of outdoor seating areas. As a result of the study, it was revealed that areas with high visual dominance, quiet, calm and where people can see easily without being seen are preferred for sitting activities.

Ankara Kuğulu Park’taki oturma alanlarının kullanım açısından değerlendirilmesi

Abstract

Çevresel, sosyal, ekonomik ve insan sağlığı açısından birçok faydası olan açık-yeşil alanlar, farklı insanların bir arada zaman geçirmelerine olanak sağlayan kamusal alanlardır. Kent ortamında halkın rekreasyonel gereksinimlerini karşılamak için en çok zaman geçirdikleri açık yeşil alanlar kent parklarıdır. Kent parkları bireylerin şehir yaşamından uzaklaşıp dinlenebileceği, sosyalleşebileceği, doğa ile bütünleşebileceği mekânlar sunar ve kentlinin psikolojik, sosyal ve fiziksel ihtiyaçlarını karşılayabileceği ortamlar oluşturur. Park alanları içerisindeki oturma aktivitesi ve bu aktiviteyi gerçekleştirecekleri farklı karakter özelliğine sahip mekanlar en çok kullanılan mekanlardır. Bu çalışma kapsamında Ankara’nın sembolü haline gelmiş Kuğulu Park’ daki oturma alanlarının kullanımı, hangi oturma alanlarının ne sebeple tercih edildiği, kullanıcıların kişisel özelliklerinin ve bireysel ya da toplu geliş şeklinin tercihler üzerinde etkili olup olmadığı araştırılmıştır. Bu çalışma ile dış mekandaki oturma alanlarının tasarım sürecinde birçok faktörün dikkate alınması gerektiği vurgulanmıştır. Çalışma sonucunda görsel hakimiyeti yüksek, sessiz sakin ve görünmeden rahatça görebildikleri alanların oturma etkinliği için tercih edildiği ortaya çıkmıştır.
