Tekstillerin Plastik Sanatlarda Kullanımı; Yumuşak Heykelleriyle Claes Oldenburg Örneği

Abstract

Bu çalışmanın amacı, plastik sanatlarda sanatsal yaratım için sanatçıların alan dışı malzemeler ve farklı teknikler kullanarak 1960’lı yıllarda ürettiği tekstil içeren öncü eserleri araştırmak ve tekstillerle bağlantısı olan yumuşak heykelleri incelemektir. Özellikle 1950 sonrasında ortaya çıkan sanat akımlarının etkisiyle sanat kavramının değişimi, disiplinlerarası etkileşimlerle tekstil malzemelerinin ve tekniklerinin plastik sanatlarda kullanılma yöntemleri değerlendirilmektedir. Öncelikle tekstil malzemelerinin bir zanaat üretim nesnesi olması dışında sanatsal eserlerde kullanılabileceği fikrinin belirmesi ve olgunlaşması, bu anlamda değer kazanma süreci araştırılmıştır. Ayrıca lif sanatı kavramının yeni konuşulmaya başladığı 1960’lı yıllarda, tekstil malzemeleri ve teknikleri Claes Oldenburg gibi heykeltıraşların elinde bambaşka fikirler ve tekniklerle kullanılmıştır. Yumuşak heykel hareketinin temsilcisi olan sanatçının gündelik, sıradan olan nesneleri sorgulayan heykelleri tekstillerin kullanılma yöntemleri bakımından incelenmektedir. Araştırmanın sonucunda farklı fiziksel ve estetik özelliklere sahip tekstil malzemelerinin plastik sanatlarla uğraşan ressam ve heykeltıraşlar tarafından tekstil sanatçılarından farklı olarak ortaya koydukları kavramsal ve biçimsel yeni yaklaşımlar ve farkları sorgulanmaktadır.

Use of Textiles in Plastic Arts: The Case of Claes Oldenburg with Its Soft Sculpture

Abstract

The aim of this study is to investigate the pioneering works of textiles produced in the 1960s by artists using out-of-field materials and different techniques for artistic creation in plastic arts and to examine soft sculptures related to textiles. In particular, the change in the concept of art with the effect of art movements that emerged after 1950, interdisciplinary interactions, and the methods of using textile materials and techniques in plastic arts are evaluated. First of all, the emergence and maturation of the idea that textile materials can be used in artistic works apart from being a craft production object and the process of gaining value in this sense has been investigated. In addition, in the 1960s, when the concept of fiber art began to be talked about, textile materials and techniques were used with completely different ideas and techniques in the hands of sculptors such as Claes Oldenburg. The sculptures of the artist, who is the representative of the soft sculpture movement, questioning every day, and ordinary objects are examined in terms of the methods of using textiles. As a result of the research, the conceptual and stylistic new approaches and differences in textile materials with different physical and aesthetic properties are questioned by painters and sculptors dealing with plastic arts, unlike textile artists.
