Artificial insemination time in sheep is a factor that can affect the pregnancy rate, considering the time of onset of oestrus, the duration of oestrus, and the fertile life span of ovulated oocytes and spermatozoa. The present study, it was aimed to determine the appropriate artificial insemination time for Awassi breed sheep whose estrus was stimulated with intravaginal sponge containing progesterone and PMSG in the non-breeding season. Oestrous sheep were divided into 3 groups. After estrus detection, they were inseminated intracervical at 10-15 hours (1st group, n=30), 16-20 hours (2nd group, n=33) and 21-24 hours (3rd group, n=35). Pregnancy examination was done 30-35 days after artificial insemination by means of ultrasound. The results in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd groups were 26.7%, 39.4% and, 45.7%, respectively. As a result of our study, it was found that intracervical insemination of awassi ewes, whose heats were determined after oestrus synchronization performed in the non-breeding season, after 10-15 hours, 16-20 hours and 21-24 hours did not cause a statistically significant change in the pregnancy rate (P>0.05). However, considering the economic value of pregnancy and the data obtained from the study, it was concluded that intracervical insemination 21-24 hours after estrus detection might be useful.
