Abstract

Poetry is a literary art form that is hard to describe. Although some description of poetry have been made, these descriptions do not help to better understand poetry, nor do they contribute to the joy it provides. These descriptions usually reflect the appreciation and understanding of poetry in their times. In poetry, how the words are used is more important than the words themselves. Hence, the language of poetry is different than, the everyday language. In poetry, the way a topic is treated might supersedes the topic. Ideas might take place in a poem but poems are not written to explain ideas. Some poets have found no other way than writing poems to describe what poem is

Şiir, tanımı zor bir edebiyat türüdür. Şiirin pek çok tanımı yapılmıştır. Bu tanımlar şiiri daha iyi anlamaya ve ondan zevk almaya yardımcı olmaz. Bunlar çoğunlukla yapıldıkları dönemin şiir zevk ve anlayışını yansıtır. Şiirde kelimelerden çok nasıl kullanıldıkları önemlidir. Şiir dili günlük dilden ayrıdır. Şiirde konu değil konunun işlenişi önemlidir. Şiirde düşünceler yer alabilir, ancak şiir bazı düşünceleri anlatmak için yazılmaz. Bazı şairler şiirin ne olduğunu şiirleri ile anlatmak istemişlerdir
