International migration discussions in the perspective of nation-state, identity and culture

Abstract

In the contemporary era, international migrations are examined within a complex and multidimensional relationship in the context of the concepts of nation-state, identity, and culture. The nature of this relationship is shaped by the essence and functions of nation-states as well as the fundamental dynamics of international migration. While nation-states play an active role in regulating and managing migration, international migration movements also lead to transformations in the sociocultural, economic, and political structures of states. This mutual interaction creates profound changes in state policies and social dynamics. It brings positive and negative social transformations in immigrants and host societies in terms of identity and culture. Therefore, while immigrants’ identities are reshaped during the adaptation process, the identity and cultural structures of host societies also change. This situation leads to the emergence of cultural boundaries. Within this context, the research aims to examine the phenomenon of international migration with its socio-political effects along the axes of nation-state, identity, and culture. Conducted through a qualitative research method and based on the literature, the study focuses on the nature of the nation-state, its role in identity formation and its cultural relations concerning international migration. The study aims to provide a theoretical contribution to these topics within the field of human geography

Ulus-Devlet, Kimlik ve Kültür Perspektifinde Uluslararası Göç Tartışmaları

Abstract

Çağdaş dönemde uluslararası göçler; ulus-devlet, kimlik ve kültür kavramları bağlamında karmaşık ve çok boyutlu bir ilişki içinde ele alınmaktadır. Bu ilişkinin niteliği, ulus-devletlerin doğası ve işlevleri ile uluslararası göçün temel dinamikleri tarafından şekillendirilmektedir. Ulus-devletler göçü düzenleme ve yönetmede aktif rol oynarken, uluslararası göç hareketleri de devletlerin sosyokültürel, ekonomik ve politik yapılarında dönüşümlere yol açmaktadır. Bu karşılıklı etkileşim, devlet politikaları ve toplumsal dinamiklerde derin değişiklikler yaratmaktadır. Göçmen ile ev sahibi toplumlarda kimlik ve kültür ekseninde de olumlu ve olumsuz sosyal dönüşümleri beraberinde getirmektedir. Dolayısıyla göçmenlerin kimlikleri adaptasyon sürecinde yeniden şekillenirken, ev sahibi toplumların kimlik ve kültürel yapıları da değişmektedir. Bu durum kültürel sınırların ortaya çıkmasına yol açmaktadır. Bu bağlamda araştırma uluslararası göç olgusunu; ulus-devlet, kimlik ve kültür ekseninde sosyo-politik etkileriyle incelemeyi amaçlamaktadır. Nitel araştırma yöntemiyle gerçekleştirilen çalışma, literatüre dayandırılarak uluslararası göçün ulus-devletin doğasına, kimlik oluşumundaki rolüne ve kültürel ilişkilerine odaklanmaktadır. Çalışmanın beşerî coğrafyadaki bu konulara kuramsal katkı sunması hedeflenmektedir.
