Abstract
This issue of AURUM Journal of Social Sciences, marking our sixth year in publication, brings together
contemporary research from various disciplines in social sciences.
The first article of the issue, “From Anxieties of Modernization to the Tender Bosom of Melodrama: Theme
of Fate as an original quality and Yeşilçam Melodramas” by Tülay Çelik evaluates the notion of fate, a central
theme in Yesilçam films, through the dual prisms of modernization and melodrama. Drawing on five
Yesilçam melodramas from the period of 1959 to 1972, this article will be of interest to not only the experts
in the field but also anyone who studies the economic and social conditions of the period.
At the time of the publication, we are a year and a half into the reality of life with Covid-19. As we are
striving to overcome this challenge, thanks to the vaccines gifted us by science, we also seek to analyze
various social implications of the pandemic. To contribute to this effort, we included two research articles
on Covid-19 in this issue.

Abstract
AURUM Sosyal Bilimler Dergisi olarak altıncı yayın yılımıza adım attığımız bu sayıda sosyal bilimlerin farklı
disiplinlerinden güncel ve kıymetli çalışmaları bir araya getirdik.
Sayının açılış makalesi olan “Yeşilçam Sinemasında Kökensel Bir Nitelik Olarak Kader Teması: Modernleşme
Kaygılarından Melodramın Şefkatli Kollarına” başlıklı çalışmada Tülay Çelik Yeşilçam sinemasının
ana temalarından olan kader olgusunu modernleşme-melodram kavramları üzerinden ele alıyor. 1959-
1972 dönemine ait melodram türünde beş Yeşilçam filminin okuması üzerine kurulu bu makalenin, konunun
uzmanları kadar dönemin ekonomik ve toplumsal koşullarıyla ilgilenen tüm araştırmacılara hitap
edeceğini düşünüyoruz.
Bu sayının yayın tarihi itibariyle bir buçuk yılı aşkın süredir Covid-19 gerçeğiyle yaşıyoruz. Bir yandan bilimin
insanlığa sağladığı aşı imkânları sayesinde Covid-19’u geride bırakmayı umut ederken diğer yandan
pandeminin toplumsal etkilerini çözümlemeye çalışıyoruz. Biz de bu sayıda Covid-19 ile ilgili iki araştırmaya
yer verdik.
