The Results of Tetracycline Sclerotherapy For Hydroceles
Abstract
A prospective, randomized, serum saline controlled study to evaluate the safety and efficiency of sclerotherapy for hydroceles on 30 patients has been done.Regardless of the age of patients, 250-500 mg. tetracycline sclerotherapy was applied according to the amount of aspirated fluid. Greater dose of tetracycline was used for larger hydrocels. In order to avoid recurrence, following the aspiration, tetracycline was injected by the same route and has been spread all through the cavity. In the study group the success rate was found to be 90 %. When evaluated together with the control group it was increased to 93.4 %. The results of this study indicate that, without patient selection, tetracycline sclerotherapy for hydroceles is economic, practical, safe and efficient. Especially in patients who are not suitable to surgery.
