Thirty-six patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) were staged with regard to clinical and immunological criteria. Anti-DNA,
ANA and serum ferritin concentrations were studied in both remission and activation patients groups.
Serum ferritin concentrations were found to be significantiy high in the active stage of the disease; while it was normal in remission.
İncrease in serum ferritin was compatible with the anti-DNA levels and positive ANA titrage. There occured significant difference
(p<0.001) in serum ferritin values between the active and remission stages, Conclusively it can be suggested that serum ferritin level was a
useful guide in evaluation of activation and remission states of SLE and in determination of optimal treatment.
