Kidney Hydatid Cysts
Abstract
Echinococcal disease is caused by the larval form of Echinococcus granulosus in humans, and the most common sites of location are the liver and the lungs. Involvement of the kidneys in uncommon (1-5 96), and can be asymptomatic for long periods. Usually the presenting symptoms are pain and mass Ân lumbar area, and haematuria. The disease doesn't have any pathognomatic signs other than detection of scolexes in urine. Radiologically cystic apearence with thick and calcified waJIs may indicate cyst hydatid. Because of the risk of patal anaphylaxis cyst puncture is not recommended. Partial or total nephrectomy still is the operation of choice. We present and discuss 9 caHidatikieri ses of renal cyst hydatid who were hospitalized and treated in the Clinic of Urology of Ankara University Faculty of Medicine in 10 years' duration.
