Abstract

The Place of Electrocoagulation Method in Rectal Cancer Treatment and Application Results

Abstract

The therapeutic value of electrocoagulation for the cure and palliation in rectal cancer cases was investigated in 60 patients. The best results were obtained in the operable tumors, localized in the first 4 cm from anal verge, maximun 4 cm in diameter and structurally polypoid. Five-year-survival rate was 83.8 % in these patients, Success rate was 66.7 % in the operable cases. Furthermore, we have failed to prevent the patients from obstruction even though successful results were available in the patients with rectal bleeding and vigorous pain. Electrocoagulation may be accepted as an alternative method in both operable and inoperable patients with its low morbidity, and rare recurrence.
