The Effect of Nitrous Oxide on the Incidence of Nausea and Vomiting in Gynecological Laparoscopy Cases

Abstract

This study was designed to evaluate the effect of nitrous oxide on • the incidençe of postoperative nausea and vomiting. Fourty patients (ASA 1 or 2) undergoing elective gynecological laparascopy were divided rondomly into two groups Patients in Group 1 received 50 % nitrous oxide, 50 • 0/0 oxygen plus 1.0 1.5 % halothane, while in Group 11 nitrous oxide was omitted and anesthesia was induced with 100 % oxygen plus - 2 % halothane.
