Polyuria-polydipsia syndromes include a variety of disorders such as central diabetes insipidus, nephrogenic diabetes insipidus, and primary polydipsia. Differentiating among these conditions is essential but often challenging, especially when relying solely on clinical findings or basic laboratory tests. This study investigates the effectiveness of intranasal administration of Pitressin (vasopressin extract) in diagnosing these syndromes. Conducted at the Endocrinology and Metabolism Clinic of Ankara University, the study included 73 patients exhibiting polyuria and polydipsia symptoms. The outcomes of intranasal Pitressin tests were compared with those of parenteral DDAVP (Desmopressin) tests and evaluated for diagnostic utility. The results showed that intranasal Pitressin is a reliable, non-invasive method for distinguishing between central and nephrogenic diabetes insipidus and psychogenic polydipsia.
