Teşhisde Pnömoperituvan

Abstract

This report discusses the application of pneumoperitoneum as an adjunct radiological method for the diagnosis and localization of intra-abdominal masses. After insufflating air into the peritoneal cavity via a paraumbilical route, clearer visualization of organ boundaries, especially the liver, spleen, and diaphragm, is achieved. A case of a 39-year-old man with suspected hepatic cyst is detailed: conventional imaging showed elevation of the right diaphragm, but the lesion's nature was unclear. Upon insufflation of 1000 cc of air, radiographs revealed separation between diaphragm and liver, confirming the cyst's intrathoracic location. Subsequent oblique and supine views further delineated hepatic and splenic contours. The paper elaborates on the technique, anatomical dynamics involving negative subdiaphragmatic pressure, and diagnostic implications. The authors advocate for pneumoperitoneum’s utility in differentiating thoracic versus abdominal masses and its safety when performed carefully.
