Abstract

This paper, framed as a seminar summary, explores the evolution, theoretical mechanisms, and clinical feasibility of electroanesthesia (EA)—a method involving transcranial electrical current to induce general anesthesia. The article covers foundational theories such as the Meyer-Overton Lipid Solubility Theory and Quastel’s Metabolic Theory, suggesting that anesthetic agents suppress neural sensitivity via membrane permeability and synaptic transmission interference. Experimental animal data highlight EA’s advantages: rapid induction and recovery, minimal physiological disruption, and histological safety confirmed via EEG and EMG studies. Although EA is not yet standardized for human use, literature reports several successful applications. Challenges like laryngospasm and muscle tension are shown to be manageable through optimized techniques and electrode positioning. The study concludes that EA offers promising potential as a physiologically safe and controllable anesthetic modality.
