A Case of Pellagra

Abstract

An observation of a pellagra case with skin symptoms and gastrointestinal disorders is presented.

This twelve-year-old child developed a simple enteritis (inflammation of the intestines) 2.5 years ago. This condition persisted for a long time, triggering pellagra and ultimately diarrhea, one of its cardinal symptoms. Vitamin PP treatment resulted in rapid improvement of the diarrhea, along with the skin lesions.

Our patient had no neuropsychic symptoms. Furthermore, no symptoms of other vitamin deficiencies were observed.

This severely cachectic patient was treated with ample serum, moderate vitamin PP injections, and a protein- and vitamin-rich diet, which resulted in a cure.

Bir Pellegra Vakası

Abstract

Deri belirtileri ve gastro-intestinal bozuklukları gösteren bir pellagra vakasının gözlemi sunulmuştur.

Oniki yaşlarında olan bu çocukta, 2,5 yıl önce basit bir enterit (barsak iltihabı) meydana gelmiştir. Bu durum uzun süre devam ederek pellagra ve nihayetinde pellagranın kardinal semptomlarından biri olan ishali tetiklemiştir. PP vitamini tedavisi ile deri lezyonlarıyla paralel olarak kısa sürede ishal de iyileşmiştir.

Hastamızda nöro-psişik belirtiler yoktu. Ayrıca diğer vitamin eksikliklerine ait semptomlar da gözlemlenmemiştir.

İleri derecede kaşektik bir durumda olan bu hastada, tedaviye yönelik olarak bol serum, orta miktarda PP vitamini enjeksiyonları, protein ve vitaminden zengin bir diyet uygulanmış ve bu tedavi şifa sağlamıştır.
