Results Obtained with Radioactive Iodine Treatment in Non-Inflammatory Hyperthyroidism Cases and Investigation of the Most Appropriate Practical Criteria in Determining the Doses to be Given (X)

Abstract

Radioactive iodine has proven to be more effective than classical treatment modalities in the management of hyperthyroidism. This study analyzes the outcomes of 302 hyperthyroid patients treated with radioactive iodine at Paris Broussais Hospital since 1956. The goal is to determine which practical criteria best indicate the adequacy of treatment and the need for additional dosing. The findings emphasize that clinical signs are the most reliable indicators of therapeutic response. Among laboratory tests, the protein-bound iodine (PBI) assay showed the highest diagnostic accuracy. Combining clinical judgment with laboratory assessments enables safer and more effective dosing decisions.
