Abstract

While clinically correct, the term "spinal cord tumor" refers to all tumors within the spinal canal, anatomy and pathology suggest a misnomer. In fact, tumors originating in the spinal cord constitute only 10-20% of intraspinal cord tumors. We should consider the fact that the majority of tumors develop at the expense of the roots and meninges a pleasant irony of fate. These tumors are generally benign, encapsulated, and extirpable, causing compression and never invading the medulla. This is why complete recovery is achieved after early surgery.

Medulla Spinalis Tümörleri

Abstract

Omurga kanalı içindeki bütün tümörlere medulla spinalis tümör'ü ismi verilmesi klinik mânada doğru olmakla beraber anatomo patolojik mânada bir terim hatası yapılmaktadır. Filhakika asıl medülla spinalisten doğan tümörler omurga kanalı içi tümörlerinin ancak 10-20% sini teşkil ederler. Ekseriyetin köklerle menenjlerin zararına inkişaf eden tümörler olmasını kaderin lâtif bir cilvesi olarak kabul etmeliyiz. Zira bu tümörler, umumiyetle selim, kapsüllü ve ekstirpabl olup medullaya kompresiyon suretiyle zarar verirler, hiç bir zamana medullayı istilâ etmezler. Erken yapılan ameliyatlardan sonra tam şifa elde edilmesi bu yüzdendir.
