Bugün Koruyucu Hekimlikten Ne Anlıyoruz?

Abstract

This essay critiques the traditional division between curative and preventive medicine, arguing for a holistic medical perspective that treats individuals as social beings influenced by environmental and societal factors. It emphasizes that effective medical care must begin with prevention, not just react to symptoms. The role of public health extends beyond treating disease—it involves identifying the ecological and social determinants of health. The paper explores historical shifts in preventive medicine, particularly following WWII, and illustrates the need for physicians to engage not just in treatment, but also in safeguarding public health through community-based strategies. A diagram is presented to show the progression from health to disease, highlighting both primary and secondary prevention.

What Do We Understand from Preventive Medicine Today?

Abstract

Bu yazı, hekimliğin tedavi ve koruma şeklinde iki ayrı kategoriye ayrılmasının yanlış sonuçlara yol açtığını vurgulayarak, insanı sağlığı ve hastalığıyla bir bütün olarak ele alan kapsamlı bir yaklaşımı savunur. Etkin tıbbi bakımın hastalık ortaya çıkmadan önce başlaması gerektiği, yalnızca tedaviye dayalı hizmetlerin yeterli olmayacağı belirtilmiştir. II. Dünya Savaşı’ndan sonra koruyucu hekimlik yeni kitle hastalıkları karşısında genişleyerek yalnız mikrobiyoloji ve epidemiyolojiye değil, aynı zamanda sosyal çevreye ve muhit faktörlerine yönelmiştir. Çalışmada yer alan şema ile hastalığın oluşum mekanizmaları ve bunlara karşı alınması gereken birincil ve ikincil koruyucu önlemler açıklanmıştır.
