Renal Damarların Arteryövenöz Fistülleri (Bir Vak'a Münasebetiyle)
Abstract
This article presents a rare case of posttraumatic arteriovenous fistula involving the right renal vessels in a 43-year-old male. Following a stab wound in 1956, the patient developed unusual sensations and abdominal pain during exertion, along with dyspnea and palpitations. Physical examination revealed hypertension, holosystolic murmurs, fremitus in the right hypochondrium, and elevated venous pressure. Imaging studies—including intravenous urography and retrograde catheterization—confirmed the presence of an arteriovenous fistula. The discussion critiques existing classifications of renal fistulas, proposing a localization-based model (renal artery/vein fistulas, intrarenal shunts, and parenchymal shunts). The literature review identifies 16 documented cases, suggesting these fistulas may be more common than previously thought. Surgical intervention was recommended for the patient.
