Bir Multiple İdiopathic Sarcoma (Kaposi) Vak’ası

Abstract

This paper discusses a case of Kaposi’s sarcoma—a rare vascular neoplasm also known as multiple idiopathic hemorrhagic sarcoma—encountered in a 50-year-old male patient. Over 16 years, the disease manifested as persistent infiltrated plaques on extremities, without nodular transformation. Histopathological evaluation revealed hyperkeratotic epidermis, dermal angiomatous proliferation with newly formed endothelial vessels, mild inflammatory infiltrates, and hemosiderin deposits. The case was notable for intense sciatic-type pain and lack of systemic involvement. The author reviews historical and international literature, discussing the uncertain pathogenesis of Kaposi’s disease, including vascular, neural, reticuloendothelial, and infectious theories. Treatment included high-dose penicillin, with further radiotherapy recommended. The study concludes that Kaposi’s disease is not as rare in Türkiye as previously believed, supported by local statistics.
