Yeni Ortopedik Bir Cihaz Hakkında – Mobilisator
Abstract
This translated article introduces the "Mobilisator"—an innovative prosthetic device developed by Cl. Amberg for patients with forefoot amputations (particularly Chopart amputations). The device revolutionizes postoperative rehabilitation by restoring physiological function in the lower leg muscles and ankle joint. Unlike older prosthetics, which resulted in pes equinus deformity, muscle atrophy, joint rigidity, and chronic pain, the Mobilisator reactivates the Achilles tendon and calf musculature through its spring-loaded heel clamp and lightweight metal base, enabling near-natural walking mechanics. Practical advantages include enhanced stability, accurate force transmission, avoidance of pressure injuries, and compatibility with conventional footwear. Over 10,000 units were manufactured by 1960, with documented success even in double amputees. The article includes insights from German orthopedic surgeons, technical construction details, and functional outcomes—arguing the Mobilisator's transformative impact on the history of prosthetics.
