A Study of the Relationship Between, Radioactive Iodine Uptake, Physical Signs and Pathological Diagnosis in 150 Goitre Cases

Abstract

Between the years of 1963-1966, in the First Surgical Clinic, a study was made about 150 goitre cases. 83.4% of these cases were female and 16.6% male. In 5,3 %of the cases there was hyperthyroidism and 5% thyroid Ca. In 89.7% of the cases simple, nodular and cystic goitre was found as euthyroidism. According to basal metabolism there was eutyroidism in 67,3% hyperthyroidism in 30.6 % and hypotroidism in 2.6% of the cases. According to I¹³¹ up-take there was euthyroidism in 76%, hyperthyroidism in 22% and hypothyroidism in 2%. According to scanning, in 14% of thes cases there was cold nodule in histopathological diagnosis of these cases thyroid carcinoma was found in 3.6%. For this reason in thyroid diseases these tests should be done rountinly and in diagnosis one should accept the value of iodine bounding tests.

150 Goitre Vak'asinda, Bazal Metabolizma, Radyoaktif İyod Up-Take Fizik Bulgular ve Patolojik Tani Arasindaki İlişkiler Üzerinde Bir İnceleme

Abstract

1963-1966 yılları arasında I. Şirürji Kliniğinde 150 vak'a üzerinde inceleme yapıldı. Bu vak'aların % 83,4 kadın % 16,6 erkekti. Klinik bulgu olarak % 5,3 vak'ada hipertiroidi, %5 vak'ada tiroid Ca., % 89,7 vak'ada ötiroidi halinde basit, nodüler ve kistik goitre tesbit edilmiştir. Bu vak'alarda uygulanan bazal metabolizmaya göre % 67,3 ötirodi, % 30 hipertiroidi, %2,6 hipotiroidi; I¹³¹ up-take testine göre, % 76 ötiroidi, %22 hipertiroidi, % 2 hipotiroidi; Scanning'e göre %14 soğuk nodül ve bunların histopatolojik incelenmesinde % 3,6 tiroid Ca. bulunmuştur. O halde tiroid hastalıklarında rutin olarak bütün testler yapılmalı ve tanıda Iyod tutma testlerinin özel bir değeri olduğu kabul edilmelidir.
