Applying a Spring to the Upper Eyelid in Cases of Nervus Facialis Paralysis in Patients with Leprosy

Abstract

Surgical methods used in the treatment of lagophthalmos have been discussed, and good results obtained with the Mörell - Fatio technique have been reported. Over the past year, six leprotic patients underwent surgery for lagophthalmos using the Mörell - Fatio technique. Two patients required repeat surgeries due to surgical complications. The complications identified were the perforation of the upper eyelid skin and incomplete closure of the eyelids. In all patients, complete corneal protection was achieved, and the eyelids' ability to open and close was restored.

Lepralılarda Görülen Nervus Facialis Paralizilerinde Üst Göz Kapağına Yay Konulması

Abstract

Lagoftalmus tedavisinde kullanılan cerrahi yöntemler tartışılmış ve bunlar arasında Mörell - Fatio tekniğiyle elde edilen iyi sonuçlar bildirilmiştir. Son bir yıl içerisinde, altı leprat hastası lagoftalmus nedeniyle Mörell - Fatio tekniğiyle ameliyat edilmiştir. İki hastada, cerrahi komplikasyonlar nedeniyle yeniden ameliyat yapılmıştır. Komplikasyonlar arasında üst göz kapağı derisinin delinmesi ve göz kapaklarının tam kapanamaması tespit edilmiştir. Tüm hastalarda, tam bir kornea korunmuş ve göz kapaklarının açılıp kapanması sağlanmıştır.
