Computed Tomographic Evaluation of the Adrenal Glands

Abstract

This study involves the evaluation of 20 cases with suspected adrenal pathology using computed tomography (CT) at Ankara University Faculty of Medicine’s Radiology Department. Conducted between November 1981 and May 1982, CT scans successfully visualized both normal and pathological appearances of adrenal glands with high accuracy. CT findings were compared to clinical diagnoses, with surgical confirmation available in seven cases. Conditions such as Cushing’s syndrome, pheochromocytoma, and adenomas were effectively identified through CT. Due to its noninvasive, safe, and convenient application, CT is recommended as a primary diagnostic modality for adrenal diseases. The overall diagnostic accuracy with CT was determined to be 80%.

Böbrek Üstü Bezlerinin Bilgisayarlı Tomografi ile İncelenmesi

Abstract

Bu çalışma, Ankara Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi Radyoloji Biriminde, adrenal patolojileri açısından şüpheli olan 20 olgunun bilgisayarlı tomografi (BT) ile değerlendirilmesini kapsamaktadır. Kasım 1981-Mayıs 1982 tarihleri arasında gerçekleştirilen BT incelemeleri sayesinde adrenal bezlerin hem normal hem de patolojik görünümleri yüksek doğrulukla ortaya konmuştur. Çalışmada BT ile elde edilen bulgular, klinik ön tanılarla karşılaştırılmış, yedi hastada cerrahi doğrulama yapılmıştır. Cushing sendromu, feokromositom ve adenom gibi çeşitli adrenal hastalıkların BT ile ayırt edilmesinin mümkün olduğu görülmüştür. BT’nin noninvaziv, güvenli ve rahat uygulanabilir olması sayesinde adrenal hastalıkların tanısında tercih edilmesi önerilmiştir. Çalışma sonunda BT ile tanı doğruluğu %80 olarak bulunmuştur.
