The Importance of GGTP, Alkaline Phosphatase, and Cholinesterase Activities in the Diagnosis of Liver Diseases

Abstract

This study evaluates serum activities of GGTP (gamma-glutamyl transpeptidase), ALP (alkaline phosphatase), and cholinesterase in various liver diseases to determine their diagnostic value. Analysis of 98 patients revealed significantly elevated GGTP and ALP levels in cases of obstructive jaundice, hepatoma, and liver metastases, while cholinesterase activity showed notable reduction in conditions with prominent parenchymal damage such as cirrhosis. GGTP activity alone was found to correctly indicate liver disease in 74% of cases. The study highlights the diagnostic importance of evaluating all three enzymes together for differential diagnosis.

Karaciğer Hastalıklarının Tanısında GGTP, Alkalen Fosfataz ve Kolinesteraz Aktivitelerinin Önemi

Abstract

Bu çalışmada, çeşitli karaciğer hastalıklarında serumda GGTP (gama glutamil transpeptidaz), ALP (alkalen fosfataz) ve kolinesteraz enzim aktiviteleri ölçülmüş ve tanısal değeri değerlendirilmiştir. Toplamda 98 hastada yapılan analizlerde GGTP ve ALP aktivitelerinin özellikle tıkanma sarılığı, hepatom ve karaciğer metastazlarında belirgin şekilde yüksek olduğu; kolinesteraz aktivitesinin ise siroz gibi parankimal harabiyetin ön planda olduğu hastalıklarda anlamlı derecede düşük bulunduğu gözlemlenmiştir. GGTP aktivitesinin tek başına karaciğer hastalıklarının tanısında %74 oranında başarılı olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Bu üç enzimin birlikte değerlendirilmesinin ayırıcı tanıda önemli bilgiler sunduğu belirtilmiştir.
