Abstract

The histological changes and their durability caused by a single low dose of carcinogen on the mouse skin were investigated. The findings were compared with those reported in the literature.
Single application of the low dose carcinogen was caused cellular changes in the mouse epidermis. At the first few week after the application, the histological changes in the epidermis were seen easily by the light microscope. These changes were focal proliferation and increased mitosis in the basal layer cells. After second week, differantiated spinal cells were also proliferated slightly. This was related to the differentiation of spinal cells arised from increased basal layer cells. The epidermal cell changes caused by carcinogens were also seen on fourth week. But, on the sixth week, the histolojik appearence of the epidermis was returned to normal. After fourth week, histological signs of carcinogen was gradually regressed and disappeared on sixth week. Above mentioned cellular changes in the epidermis were not seen in the control animals.
