MN Blood Group Frequencies in Türkiye – A Comparative Analysis

Abstract

This study presents MN blood group data collected by the Turkish Red Crescent Control and Research Laboratory from 2361 voluntary blood donors. Using anti-M and anti-N rabbit sera, three genotype groups were identified: MM, MN, and NN. The distribution found was MM: 32.3%, MN: 49.7%, NN: 18.0%. These ratios are consistent with published European frequencies. The authors compare local and global findings, noting the diagnostic utility of MN typing in anthropological genetics, transfusion reaction surveillance, and forensic medicine. While anti-M/N antibodies are rare in natural sera, they may appear post-transfusion or in certain neoplastic cases. Verifying MN phenotype inheritance models, the study also correlates frequencies with previous national findings.

Türkiye’de MN Kan Grupları Hakkında Red Crescent Laboratuvar Çalışması

Abstract

Bu çalışma, Türkiye Kızılay Derneği Kontrol ve Araştırma Laboratuvarı tarafından 2361 gönüllü kan bağışçısında yapılan MN kan grubu tayinlerini içermektedir. Anti-M ve anti-N tavşan serumları kullanılarak bireyler MM, MN ve NN gruplarına ayrılmış; elde edilen dağılım MM: %32.3, MN: %49.7, NN: %18.0 şeklinde bulunmuştur. Bulgular, daha önceki ulusal veriler ve Avrupa popülasyonları ile uyumludur. MN sisteminin antropolojik genetik, transfüzyon sonrası reaksiyon takibi ve adli tababet açısından önemi vurgulanmıştır. Anti-M ve anti-N antikorları normal insan serumlarında nadir olup, bazı neoplastik durumlarda ortaya çıkabildiği kaydedilmiştir. Ayrıca MN veraset modeli doğrulanmış, Türkiye’deki önceki çalışmalarla karşılaştırma yapılmıştır.
