Distribution of PAS-positive substances in the kidneys of laboratory rodents. The study investigated the localization of substances showing positive periodic acid-Schiff (PAS) reaction in the kidneys of white rats, guinea pigs, and rabbits. Tissue samples were fixed in Bouin’s solution and stained using PAS technique, with some sections pre-treated with salivary amylase to exclude glycogen. Strong PAS positivity was observed in the glomerular basement membrane, mesangium, and proximal tubules, especially in the terminal segment. Distal tubules and collecting ducts were negative except for their basement membranes. Cytoplasmic granules showed metachromasia and were resistant to amylase, suggesting mucoprotein or glycoprotein content.
