Karatis Cismi Tümörü

Bu çalışma, boyunda şah damarının (arteria carotis) çatallanma noktasında yer alan ve nadir görülen bir karotis cismi (glomus caroticum) tümörünü ele almaktadır. Makale, 50 yaşında boyun bölgesinde ağrılı ve ses kısıklığına yol açan bir şişlikle başvuran erkek hastanın klinik seyrini sunar. Ameliyatla çıkarılan tümörün histolojik incelemesinde karakteristik "alveolar" ve "organoid" yapı izlenmiş, hücrelerin damarlar etrafında sıralandığı görülmüştür.Tümör, cerrahi müdahaleden sadece iki ay sonra nüksetmesi bakımından literatürdeki benzerlerinden ayrılmaktadır. Yazar, tümörün genellikle iyi huylu kabul edilmesine rağmen, büyük damar ve sinirlere sıkı yapışıklık göstermesi nedeniyle ameliyat riskinin (mortalite %17-30) yüksek olduğunu vurgulamaktadır. Makalede ayrıca karotis cisminin anatomisi, histolojisi ve kanın kimyasal bileşimini izleyen bir kemoreseptör olarak fizyolojik görevi hakkında geniş bilgi verilmektedir.
