Analysis of 116 Bilateral Truncal Vagotomy Drainage Surgery

Year 1976, Volume: 29 Issue: 4, 887 - 906, 31.12.1976

Abstract

Year 1976, Volume: 29 Issue: 4, 887 - 906, 31.12.1976

Abstract

We have reviewed the results of bilateral truncal vagotomy . and drainage procedures applied to the duodenal ulcer patients, during April 1969 and December 1974. Questionnaire to these patients has been sent and we have received from 116 patients. The preoperative, operative, and postoperative (early and late) results of the. 116 patients were evaluated and these; results were compared similar procedures in the. literature.

In our cases, mortality rate was under 1 percent; recurrence 5.2 . percent, constipation 4.3 percent, severe diarrhoea 3.4 percent, postvagotomic gallbladder disease 3.4 percent and it has been shown that dysphagy and dumping would not be a significant proble1Th The late postoperative period was successful in 90 percent of the cases.
