Glomus Karatikum Tümörleri

Year 1970, Volume: 23 Issue: 5, 1469 - 1483, 31.10.1970

Abstract

Glomus Carotid Tumors

Year 1970, Volume: 23 Issue: 5, 1469 - 1483, 31.10.1970

Abstract

In a retrospective study 4 chemodectomas located in the carotid body were diagnosed in biopsy and surgical specimens examined at the Departman of Pathology of Faculty of Medicine University of Ankara from january 1947 to august 1970.
Our findings have revealed that all tumors have developed in the females. The youngest of ourcases was 24 years old and the oldest was 45 years old. The average age is 36. In the gross examination the biggest diameter of tumors has been found as 9 cm. But, the average diameter was 6 cm. In one case the clinical diagnosis of bi- lateral carotid body tumor made. Three different histologyc patterns of chemodectomas, such as usual, angiomatous and adenomatous types are observed in the same case, This case suggest us that such a histologyc classification in chemodectomas is meaningless.
Our findings have been compared with that found in litterature and results have been discussed .
