Study of the Rate of Renal Glomerular Filtration with Diatrizoate

Abstract

Inulin is widely accepted for measuring glomerular filtration rate (GFR), but its quantification poses technical and time-related difficulties. This study evaluates 131I-labeled sodium diatrizoate as an alternative for GFR determination. Eleven patients—five healthy and six with confirmed renal pathology—underwent simultaneous testing with inulin and 131I-diatrizoate. Clearance rates were calculated using plasma and urine radioactivity measurements, applying standardized equations. Mean clearance values were 108.5 mL/min for inulin and 105.7 mL/min for 131I-diatrizoate, with a mean ratio of 1.02. Results support the use of 131I-diatrizoate as a reliable and easier method for GFR assessment compared to inulin.

Diatrizoate ile Böbrek Glomerüler Filtrasyon Süratinin İncelenmesi

Abstract

İnülin ile glomerüler filtrasyon süratinin ölçümü yaygın bir metot olmakla birlikte, bu yöntemin teknik zorlukları ve zaman alıcı olması yeni arayışları gündeme getirmiştir. Bu çalışmada 131I ile işaretlenmiş sodium diatrizoate’ın inüline alternatif olarak glomerüler filtrasyon süratini ölçme potansiyeli değerlendirilmiştir. Beşi sağlıklı, altısı renal patolojili 11 vakada simültane olarak inülin ve 131I-diatrizoate kullanılarak plazma ve idrar örneklerinden elde edilen radyoaktivite değerleriyle klerens hesaplamaları yapılmıştır. Ortalama klerens değerleri inülin için 108.5 cc/dakika, 131I-diatrizoate için 105.7 cc/dakika olarak bulunmuş; iki yöntem arasındaki oran 1.02 olarak hesaplanmıştır. Bu sonuçlar, 131I-diatrizoate’ın glomerüler filtrasyon süratini ölçmede güvenilir ve pratik bir yöntem olduğunu göstermektedir.
