Nasogastric Tube Application in Unconscious and Patients Under General Anesthesia: A Method

Year 1970, Volume: 23 Issue: 2, 443 - 451, 30.06.1970

Abstract

Nasogastric intubation in surgical practice is typically performed while the patient is conscious, which can provoke gag reflex and discomfort. Additionally, the tube can interfere with proper fitting of the anesthesia mask, compromising oxygenation. This article presents a practical method for nasogastric tube placement after general anesthesia induction. The technique uses a lubricated gastric tube inserted into a tracheal tube, which is gently guided into the esophagus. The gastric tube is then advanced into the stomach and redirected from oral to nasal exit using a second guiding tube. The method was successfully implemented in over a thousand cases without major complications and is presented as superior to previously reported approaches.

Genel Anestezi Altındaki ve Şuursuz Hastalarda Nazo-Gastrik Sonda Tatbikatı (Bir Metod)

Year 1970, Volume: 23 Issue: 2, 443 - 451, 30.06.1970
