Abstract

Goiter which is widely spread all over the world unfortunately exists also in Turkey. Interviews by the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare have evidently revealed the existence of endemic areas though not clearly illuminating the epidemiology of this disease.

It is urgently necessary that this problem, of vital importance from the standpoint of public health and social economy, be given first concideration. For this purpose endemic areas should first of all, be determined by experienced teams though close examination, and the disease should be prevented through the application of "iodized salt" presently accepted throughout the world.

The Problem of Goitre in Public Health and its Prevention

Abstract

Yeryüzünde çok yaygın olan guvatr memleketimizde de mevcuttur. Sağlık ve Sosyal Yardım Bakanlığınca yapılan anketler, hastalığın epidemiyolojisini tamamiyle aydınlatmamakla beraber aşikâr şekilde andemik guvatr bölgelerinin bulunduğunu göstermektedir.

Gerek halk sağlığı ve gerekse sosyal ve ekonomi bakımından fevkalâde ehemmiyetli olan bu problemi ciddi olarak ele almak zaruretindeyiz. Bu maksatla ilk olarak yapılacak iş mümareseli ekipler tarafından yapılacak iyi bir tarama ile guvatrın andemik olduğu bölgeleri tesbit etmek ve bütün dünyanın kabul ettiği iodize tuz tatbikatı ile hastalığı önlemektir.
