Çocukluk Döneminde Obesite Sorunu

Year 1982, Volume: 35 Issue: 4, 717 - 726, 31.12.1982

Abstract

Obesity Problems in Childhood

Year 1982, Volume: 35 Issue: 4, 717 - 726, 31.12.1982

Abstract

This study explores the increasing prevalence of obesity in childhood and the genetic, environmental, psychological, and neuroendocrine factors contributing to it. Disruptions in energy balance due to hypothalamic dysfunctions, hormonal abnormalities, overnutrition, and insufficient physical activity are discussed in detail. Childhood obesity is linked to complications such as hypertension, diabetes, orthopedic issues, psychosocial challenges, and endocrine disorders. Diagnostic assessment includes anthropometric measurements (especially skinfold thickness), biochemical tests, and developmental evaluations. The recommended treatment approach involves age-appropriate dietary adjustments, exercise programs, psychological support, and medical interventions when necessary. Preventive strategies emphasize exclusive breastfeeding and delayed introduction of solid foods.
