Yaşlılarda Konjenital Atrium Septum Defekti: (60 Yaş Üzerinde Olup ve Ameliyat Edilen 10 Vak'anın İncelenmesi)

Year 1969, Volume: 22 Issue: 4, 817 - 826, 31.12.1969

Abstract

Altmış yaşın üzerinde ameliyat edilen on atrium septum vakası incelenmiştir. Aşikâr pulmoner hipertansiyon bulunan üç vak'a, ameliyat sonrası kısa bir süre içinde hayatını kaybetmiştir.

Congenital Heart Disease in the Elderly: (A Study of 10 Cases Over 60 Years Old Who Underwent Surgery)

Year 1969, Volume: 22 Issue: 4, 817 - 826, 31.12.1969

Abstract

Congenital heart diseases are not limited to childhood and can be observed at any age. Among congenital heart conditions, Atrial Septal Defect (ASD) is the one that has the longest life expectancy.
Ten cases of Atrial Septal Defect, who underwent surgery after the age of 60, were examined. Three cases with evident pulmonary hypertension died shortly after surgery. Studies have shown that the mortality rate is higher in cases with severe pulmonary hypertension.
Our findings indicate that, in elderly patients, the mortality rates between surgical and medical treatments are not significantly different.
Regardless of age, in patients with slowly progressing symptoms, surgical treatment appears to be the only appropriate option, even if there is mild to moderate pulmonary hypertension.
