Abstract

Considering the importance of the liver in carbohydrate metabolism, we investigated the metabolic reactions in hepatic insufficiency. We examined both the blood glucose levels in various liver diseases and the system responding to sudden changes in glycemia using glucose loading and insulin tests. We observed that glycemia tends to deviate from normal especially in acute and severe hepatic insufficiency. Through glucose and insulin tests, we found that the mechanism responding to hypoglycemia is more fragile and tends to deteriorate earlier in liver failure.

Investigation of Hyperglycemic and Hypoglycemic Response Mechanisms in Hepatic Insufficiency

Abstract

Karaciğerin karbonhidrat metabolizmasındaki rolü göz önüne alınarak karaciğer bozukluklarında metabolik reaksiyonlar incelenmiştir. Farklı karaciğer hastalıklarında glisemi seviyeleri ile glisemideki ani değişikliklere cevap veren sistem glikoz yükleme ve insülin testleriyle değerlendirilmiştir. Özellikle had ve ağır karaciğer kifayetsizliği vakalarında glisemi normalden sapma göstermektedir. Bu testlerle hipoglisemiye cevap veren mekanizmanın daha erken bozulduğu ve bu sistemin elemanlarının daha frajil olduğu gözlemlenmiştir.
