Abstract

Throughout history the city of Skopje has been regarded with a great importance and pivotal such as one of the most important religious, cultural and educational centres of civilization of The Ottoman Empire in Rumelia. One of the rarest educational institutions in post-Ottoman period which has survived in this city is considered to be the Meddah Madrasa. Ataullah Kurtiş Efendi, after reaching the rank of the Dersiam/Professor from Fatih Madrasa - until the midest of the last century - with his spiritual leadership to the people of the region, has educated and cultivated the most elite group and succeeded to re-gain the former grandeur of this madrasa. Ataullah Kurtiş Efendi as a Baş muderris/Principal Professor of aforementioned madrasa, together with his students, conducted crucial political and socio-cultural repercussions in both Macedonia and Balkans in general.
