The Issue of the Origin of Pomaks (Analysis and Evaluation)
Abstract
The ethnical origin of Pomaks living in the Balkans and Anatolia has been subject to many studies; in some of which Pomaks have been examined in terms of their language while in some they have been regarded as extension of asimilited nations. When taking into consideration the territory they lived and their history, which are neglected in most of these studies, however, it could be figured out that they became a separate ethnic group. This paper aims to make a contribution to the studies on the issue of the origin of Pomaks who are in search of identity today, and more importantly intends the findings overlooked.
