Abstract
Nish, which today takes place in the territory of Serbia, was known as Naissus in the Roman period. It had been for a long time under the Byzantine rule and also five centuries under the Ottoman governance and lastly split by it in the nineteenth century. In the Berlin pact held after the Russian-Ottoman war in 1878, Nish has been given to Serbia.
