REGIONAL SECURITY COMPLEXITY IN POST-SOVIET EURASIA: CSTO DILEMMA
Abstract
This article aims to analyse CSTO as a regional security organization according to two regional security theories and to find explanations to CSTO’s unsolved challenges. The theoretical perspectives of institutional design is used to follow the reasons behind having common values different than West’s, as well as regional security complexes theory to be able to understand the relationship of CSTO with its neighbours who are affected by its policies and actions. It is aimed to find organization’s position in the challenges the member states had to face. For this purpose, examples of Oshi protests of 2010 and Armenian April Revolution of 2018 are used and the reactions of CSTO is analysed. It argues that CSTO is an organization which is able to achieve its goals and so, is a successful one if not analysed from a Western point of view.
