An Improved Method to Determine the Potential Yield of Walnut Trees

Abstract

Potential yield of 48 walnut trees of different ages grown in the Marmara Region was calculated in two successive years on the basis of the equation given below: Yield index = (a×b) + 3 (c×d), where; a. percentage of terminal buds producing pistil late flowers, b. average number of pistil late flowers per terminal buds, c. percentage of lateral buds producing pistil late flowers, d. average number of pistil late flowers per lateral buds, 3: constant; average of the number of lateral buds per 1 year old shoots. The equation for yield index was found by counting the number of lateral and terminal buds and the number of pistil late flowers on the shoots grown from these buds on 10 one year old branches randomly selected in each of 48 walnut trees. If yield index is: •Below 200, this means the yield is poor; •Between 201-400, yield is medium, •Between 401-500, yield is good, above 500, yield is excellent. This method gives a reliable comparison of walnut varieties or types in respect to their yield potentials.

Ceviz Ağaçlarında Verim Potansiyelinin Tespiti İçin Geliştirilmiş Bir Metot

Abstract

Marmara Bölgesi'nde yetiştirilen farklı yaşlardaki 48 ceviz ağacının potansiyel verimi, aşağıdaki denklem kullanılarak iki ardışık yılda hesaplanmıştır: Verim indeksi = (a×b) + 3 (c×d), burada; a. pistil geç çiçek üreten terminal tomurcukların yüzdesi, b. terminal tomurcuk başına düşen ortalama pistil geç çiçek sayısı, c. pistil geç çiçek üreten lateral tomurcukların yüzdesi, d. lateral tomurcuk başına düşen ortalama pistil geç çiçek sayısı, 3: sabit; 1 yaşındaki sürgün başına düşen lateral tomurcuk sayısının ortalaması. Verim indeksi denklemi, 48 ceviz ağacının her birinden rastgele seçilen 10 adet bir yaşındaki dalda, bu tomurcuklardan çıkan sürgünlerdeki lateral ve terminal tomurcuk sayısı ile pistil geç çiçek sayısının sayılmasıyla bulunmuştur. Verim indeksi: •200'ün altında ise verim düşük demektir; •201-400 arası verim orta, •401-500 arası verim iyi, 500 üzeri verim mükemmeldir. Bu yöntem, ceviz çeşitleri veya tipleri arasında verim potansiyelleri açısından güvenilir bir karşılaştırma sağlar.
