The Effects of Pulsing Before and After Storage on Storage and Vase Life on Rosa hybrida L. cv. Avalanche Cut Rose

Year 2025, Volume: 54 Issue: Özel Sayı 1, 260 - 272, 25.03.2025

Abstract

In this study, the effects of water extraction with 7%sucrose before and after storage on the storage and vase life of cut flowers of rose (Rosa hybrida L. Avalanche) were investigated. In the research, A (before storage at 20±2℃ for 24 hours, tap water up taking, control), B (7% sucrose+0.5 ml NaOCl+pH (3.5-5.5) water up taking after storage at 20±2℃ for 6 hours,) and C (7% sucrose+0.5 ml NaOCl+pH (3.5-5.5) water up taking, before storage at 20±2℃ for 24 hours,) applications were made for two years on the cut roses tested and in the second year, the pH value in B and C applications was 5.5-6.5. Roses were stored in vase solution (A: tap water; B and C: 0.5 ml NaOCl+low pH water) for 28 days at 4℃ and 70-75% relative humidity (RH). The vase life periodically at five different times was observed as 12 days at 20±2℃, 60±10% RH and approximately 12 µmol.m-²s⁻¹ light. In both years, different results were obtained for the following parameters; relative fresh weight, vase water uptake, pH and electrical conductivity difference in vase solution, relative water content, respiration rate, ethylene production, leaf and petal color, visual quality, flower opening, neck bending, amount of chlorophyll in the leaf, vase life and amount of carbohydrates in the petal during storage and vase life of roses. It was found that the application of C before storage was better for 21 days of wet storage in Avalanche rose, and the application of B after 7 days or 14 days of wet storage was found to be positive in vase life. Vase life and quality values of roses periodically decreased depending on the storage period.

Rosa hybrida L. cv. Avalanche Kesme Gül Çeşidinde Depolama Öncesi ve Sonrası Sakarozlu Solüsyon Çektirme İşleminin Depolama ve Vazo Ömrü Üzerine Etkisi

Year 2025, Volume: 54 Issue: Özel Sayı 1, 260 - 272, 25.03.2025
